Sao Paulo, August 5, 2019 – Friboi, the JBS beef business unit, achieved 100% compliance during an external audit that assessed a range of production criteria at all its meatpacking plants in Brazil. The project, called the Supply Chain Seal – Selo da Cadeia de Fornecimento – and which includes certification from the Brazilian Certification Service (SBC), was developed by JBS based on international standards and takes into account common customer requirements from all markets the Company serves.
The plants were assessed for: animal welfare, sourcing / sustainability, animal transportation, equipment / facilities, animal health, quality / procedures, supply chain controls, the environment, social responsibility, traceability, carcass classification and grading and risk-specific issues.
“The Supply Chain Seal underlines the commitment from Friboi and all JBS businesses to continuously improving our internal production processes. This is a unique project that will showcase the transparency of our practices, the quality of our products and the sustainability of our businesses”, said Renato Costa, Friboi president.
SBC, the certification company, has over 16 years’ experience controlling product sourcing and its experienced technical team is responsible for certifying 40% of properties included on the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) Cattle and Buffalo Identification and Certification System. The SBC is a benchmark for animal welfare, grading and traceability controls and its involvement gives the JBS Supply Chain Seal additional credibility.
Second phase of the initiative has already begun
A new training cycle aligned with the Seal’s criteria began in the first half of 2019, targeting staff in specific areas, such as cattle truck drivers and others who handle live animals, as well as personnel responsible for carcass classification and grading. Certificate renewal audits will also take place in the second half of the year.
