Sao Paulo, April 27, 2018 – Last Wednesday (25), JBS USA named Lance Kotschwar to the post of Ethics and Compliance director. He will supervise JBS’s global compliance policies and programs at the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. operations.
Kotschwar’s main responsibilities include the code of conduct, the direct ethics reporting line, global anticorruption policies, antitrust and competition law, commercial compliance and conflict of interest policies, ensuring that JBS USA and Pilgrim’s units worldwide implement and maintain the highest ethical standards.
Prior to joining JBS USA, Kotschwar was Ethics and Compliance director and Government and Industry Relations vice-president at the Gavilon Group LLC. He also has over 20 years’ federal legislative and regulatory experience at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and branches of the US Congress.
He will be working closely with JBS USA’s independent advisory board, which supports company leaders on issues including corporate governance, government and regulatory issues, commodity risk management and marketing.
Lance Kotschwar’s arrival complements JBS’s recent investments in the compliance area as the company has been developing a range of initiatives since last year to become a global benchmark in this area. After hiring Marcelo Proença to lead the Company’s global activities in this area, JBS launched an outsourced ethics reporting line called the “JBS Ethics Line” and implemented the “Always Do the Right Thing” program.
Transparency International, a non-governmental organization, published its “Transparency in Corporate Reporting” report at the beginning of 2018, in which it assessed corporate transparency at Brazil’s 100 biggest companies. JBS was given a “very good/good” ranking with a grade of 8.1, well above the overal average (5.7). The company was ranked 9th among Brazil’s 53 largest companies with foreign operations and top ranked in the food industry.
